ENRICO BAJ
Enrico Baj
Born in Milan in 1924, Enrico Baj studied at Brera Academy of Art and Milan University, where he gained a law degree. In 1951, Baj co-founded Movimento Nucleare, which set itself against the rational, geometric and abstract art of the day to create an overly political artistic style. Throughout his career, Baj created works in a variety of media. His paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures often depicted a range of grotesque, caricature-like figures, meant as international challenge to bourgeois conventions. He was close to the surrealist and dada movements, and was later associatied with CoBrA. Baj died in 2003. His works can be found in major collections around the world, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Australia and the Tate Gallery in London.
