MIGUEL BERROCAL
Miguel Berrocal was a Spanish sculptor whose work was unified by an underlying search for beauty, borne from his study of mathematics and physics early in life. His sculptures often consist of interlocking elements known as “component parts” that can be assembled into unique forms within a series of almost identical objects. Working in a wide range of sizes, Berrocal’s pieces were sometimes very large in scale for the purpose of installation in public parks, while other times small enough to be worn as jewelry. Born on September 28, 1933 in Málaga, Spain, the artist spent much of his life in Verona, Italy where he discovered a small foundry that allowed him to cast his complex and modular sculptures. His work has been exhibited widely across Europe, North and South America, and Japan. Berrocal died on May 31, 2006 in Málaga, Spain.
