FRANCISCO (FRANK) MONTEAVARO
Francisco ( Frank ) Monteavaro
Born in Cuba , 1959
As a child Frank watched an old man in the neighborhood do a portrait in oil paint and it made a great impression on him. In 1973, He immigrated to Miami , FL with his immediate family. In 1987, he began drawing a few sketches, and then in 1990 he began painting on wood, planters, furniture and some small canvases. At the time, he would give away, sell and trade his work. Frank first publicly showed his work at Cool Beans Café, in North Miami, in 1996. Since then, he has shown his work many times at Tip Freemans Art Gallery, in the Upper East Side of Miami. In 2001, he traveled to Caracas, Venezuela and met an artist called Miguel VonDangel. VonDangel took Frank under his wing for a few months and taught, shared and explained about the gift of creating, a calling of some sorts, and a vocation for life.
Since his trip to Venezuela and his encounter with Miguel VonDangel, Frank has created his own trademark style, that goes from abstract to primitive and modern, all mixed together to create something beautiful and unique. His works are now on canvas and wood, with oils, enamels, acrylics and mixed media. In Oct. 2006, Frank under the urging of friends , started to show his new work ounce again in Miami at Viernes Culturales and has been a great addition to the local artist community in Little Habana. In Nov. 2006, He exhibited his new Paintings at The Great Florida Bank in Miami (1465 SW 8th street ) with much success and admiration by some of his peers. Frank is a self-taught artist, who is beginning to flourish because he is passionate about never staying the same, always learning, and trying different mediums and techniques.
