PRIVATE LISTINGBorn on the slopes of the Galeras volcano, the master Iván Guayasamín is one of the most outstanding exponents of Latin American indigenous expressionism. With more than 40 years exhibiting his works in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela, the United States, England, Spain and France. He has painted more than a thousand works in which he uses the acrylic or oil technique on canvas with a spatula. “His painting has been inspired by the experiences of the Latin American indigenous people. Gestures that express feelings, with exaggerated strokes that expose the pain of an ethnic group that struggles to stay alive over time and its circumstances. His goal is to raise awareness; for the viewer to capture the 'beauty' found in the 'pain' due to the indigenous's attachment to their land, to their colonial and creative mother, with ochre, dark and red colors predominating in his works.”
