Laurent Proneur (b. 1969, France) is a contemporary artist whose work bridges the worlds of street art and fine art painting. Raised in a traveling circus family that performed across Europe, Proneur was immersed from an early age in a culture of performance, creativity, and self-expression. As a young performer he worked as an acrobat, juggler, and musician, experiences that later informed the rhythm, movement, and spontaneity present in his visual work.
In the early 1980s, Proneur became involved in the emerging European graffiti and hip-hop movements, painting under the name “LONE” and contributing to the development of the Paris street art scene. His work appeared in the influential graffiti publication Paris Tonkar, documenting the rise of the movement. Seeking to expand his artistic practice, he later studied illustration at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he graduated at the top of his class.
Today Proneur works primarily in painting, blending elements of abstraction, expressionism, and graffiti culture. His compositions explore color, movement, and emotional narrative, often balancing energetic mark-making with moments of quiet reflection. Now based in Los Angeles, Proneur continues to develop what he describes as a “neoteric experiment in fine art graffiti,” creating works that merge the raw energy of street culture with the language of contemporary painting.
