Luis Garcia-Nerey
Luis Garcia-Nerey (b. 1973, Santurce, Puerto Rico) is a contemporary American artist known for his abstract paintings, sculptures, and immersive installations. Raised in Miami after his family relocated from Puerto Rico, Garcia-Nerey studied at the New World School of the Arts in Miami and later at Long Island University (C.W. Post campus) in New York.
His work explores themes of identity, migration, memory, and the relationship between individuals and their environments. Drawing from theories of constructionism, Garcia-Nerey often creates layered compositions and constructed environments that invite viewers to actively engage with the artwork and reflect on the connections between the self and society.
Garcia-Nerey’s work has been exhibited internationally and included in exhibitions at institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, and the Coral Springs Museum of Art. He lives and works in Miami and has participated in numerous residencies and collaborative projects, including the Banff Centre for the Arts residency program.
