Peter Jeppson
Peter Jeppson (b. 1985, Sweden) is a Stockholm-based contemporary visual artist whose work spans painting, sculpture, ceramics, and mixed media. Jeppson works primarily in figurative art, often imbuing everyday or “dead” objects—pencils, buckets, fruits, vegetables—with anthropomorphic traits and emotional depth. These recurring characters are partly autobiographical, exploring themes of decay, pleasure, relaxation, and the complexities of human experience. His style is marked by bright, contrasting colors, humor, and a deliberate sense of imperfection (“faux-naïf”) that allow for ambiguity and emotional nuance. Raised with roots in graffiti and illustration, Jeppson developed his artistic voice by gradually simplifying backgrounds and emphasizing character expression. His work draws inspiration from cartoons (both classic and modern), animation, and the idea of object-personification. Jeppson has exhibited in solo and group shows across Sweden, the UK, USA, and other countries. One notable exhibition, Pencils & Cigarettes (2021), juxtaposes symbols of creation and decay and features mixed-media sculptures and paintings that prompt viewers to consider time, identity, and existential uncertainty.
