Lea Nikel (1918–2005) was a key figure in the second generation of abstract painters in Israel, and is still considered one of the most influential female painters in the Israeli art scene. She is known for her use of color and materiality, and for her distinct artistic signature. She received the Israel Prize for Painting (1995), and represented Israel at the Johannesburg Biennale (1995), and at the 32nd Venice Biennale (1964). Her works are included in prominent private and public collections worldwide.
