TOMASZ RUT

Tomasz Rut was born in 1961 and raised in Warsaw, Poland. Son of Tadeusz, an Olympic athlete and Wanda, an artist and art teacher, Tomasz was introduced to the world of art in his early childhood and demonstrated prodigious talent, first exhibited at his solo show in Warsaw at the tender age of eleven.

In the course of his formal art studies, Tomasz attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and then continued his training to gain a profound understanding of art history, painting techniques and styles at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he earned his Master’s Degree in art conservation.

Offered his first job by the prestigious Biltmore House in Asheville, NC, Rut employed his skills working on the Estate’s Collection as well as on a

number of large scale mural restoration projects

for such clients as the Smithsonian Institution and the Treasury Department in Washington, DC, the State House in Trenton, NJ, the Society for the Preservation of the New England Antiquities in Boston, MA, and the Library of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, FL.

After opening his first studio in West Palm Beach, FL, Tomasz briefly continued to work on restoration projects which included the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts and Villa Vizcaya in Miami, the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, and the Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.

During that time, while continually painting and drawing in search of his definitive personal form of artistic expression, Rut started transitioning from art conservation into creating art, focused initially on large scale decorative and mural projects commissioned by interior designers for prominent Palm Beach and Miami estates, including celebrity and many Forbes’ richest American clients.Given a sufficient degree of artistic freedom, and challenged by the vast scope of required creativity, Tomasz was able to start developing his own consistent artistic vision and painting technique.Finding and formulating his own distinctive style and method of painting in the early nineties, the artist gradually abandoned commissioned work and devoted himself fully to to his own art. Soon, his early works were published and appeared in many galleries, gaining Tomasz recognition as one of the leading contemporary figurative painters.

In 1999, the Robb Report magazine’s Best of the Best issue named Tomasz Rut as one of the five most collectible living artists, among such distinguished names as Botero, Chihuly, Clemente and Hockney.
Over the years, his artwork, published in two retrospective, hard cover books and available in limited editions, has reached many thousands of collectors from around the world, including celebrities and museums.
In 2011 Tomasz Rut’s paintings were officially included in the Vatican Collection among such masters as Michelangelo and Raphael by pope Benedict XVI - the event that the artist considers a great honor and accomplishment.
