ANTONIO TAMBURRO
Antonio Tamburro’s (Italian, b. 1948) paintings portray figures and city streets through rhythmic brushstrokes and bold color. Throughout his career, the Italian artist’s subjects have included the loneliness of city life, the mentally ill, and sports. In addition to mixed-media painting, he has created frescoes. Tamburro studied with Giovanni Brancaccio at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples from 1966 to 1968. He moved in 1968 to attend Rome’s Academy of Fine Arts, then under the direction of Franco Gentilini. From 1978 to 1981, Tamburro taught at the Spoleto Art Academy. In 2008 he donated a portrait of Pope Benedict XVI to the Vatican. A survey exhibition of Tamburro’s works was held in 2009 at the Palazzo Venezia.
